It was early for a Sunday morning, but thirty-nine karters made the 9:00 start at Grand Prix Kartways last Sunday for OSCAAR’s Kartfest ’08. OSCAAR drivers, crew members, staff and friends gathered bright and early to “bash and crash” and determine who would outrun who behind the wheel of electric go-karts. For some it was a chance to pick on OSCAAR’s Champion, Derrick Tiemersma…a chance for crew members to compete against their supporting driver, and for others just an opportunity to do something different for a day!
The format was structured with each competitor receiving a round of practice, a round of qualifying and then everyone lining up based on lap-times in six different finales. By day’s end it was very apparent that the Passer Posse was a force to be reckoned with. Four karters that registered with the Passer clan, including both Gary and Roy, won their finales. However, it was Chris Ryckman (crew member of TJ Woolsey’s) who ended up with the fastest time of the day and took home the checkers in the grand finale. Congratulations to Chris!
I would like to thank TJ Woolsey for his efforts in organizing this event, and would also like to thank Don McLeod for lending us his photography talents for the day. Don had original intentions of racing with the gang, but elected to take pictures for the day, so we thank him!
Finally, thanks to everyone who made the early morning start, and helped make the day a great success!
