Mosport Speedway is next on the OSCAAR schedule as the Outlaw Super Late Models visit the track this Saturday August 22nd. An earlier scheduled visit on July 11th was cancelled due to rain so that makes it a full year since the drivers have been on the high speed 1/2 mile oval.
During the race on August 23rd of last year, it was Glenn Watson who picked up his 2nd win of the year on his way to the 2008 Championship. Watson brings his team and #22 Red Rocket fully prepared for a repeat win and padding his lead in the 2009 points. It has been an anxious two weeks for the 22 Team as they worked hard making repairs to the car after a practice wreck at Kawartha. Watson feels good about the work done and is ready for Mosport.
Jeff Hanley is excited to return to Mosport with high hopes of winning. He certainly wants to put behind him the motor gremlins that plagued his 2008 effort and more recently at Peterborough on August 2nd. His recent Kawartha performance was very strong in both races where he earned the Hard Charger Award having moved up 21 positions over the two races and took top prize of the night by winning overall in the Twin 35′s.
Derrick Tiemersma would like to return to the win column at Mosport, having won there in 2007, and this Saturday could very well be his day. The 7 Team has shown improvement with each race, all the while earning top five and better finishes. Sitting 2nd in points and only 55 back of leader Glenn Watson, look for Tiemersma to race hard and pick up his first win of 2009.
Of course there any number of OSCAAR drivers who would like to spoil the show for Watson, Hanley and Tiemersma. Rob Clarke and TJ Woolsey have already each picked up wins in 2009 and are hungry for their second win. Drew Spicer returns to race action at Mosport in a “duel” of the Outlaw Cadillacs with Mike Beyore. He’ll have to contend with a fast #54 car as Beyore performed well at Kawartha. The latest word on possible entries into the field includes the #9 of Brandon Watson who led a majority of the laps in the 2nd Kawartha feature before cutting an oil line. Add his name to a long list of contenders and the question becomes – who will win? Come out this Saturday to Mosport Speedway and find out for yourself. Spectator gates open at 5:30 pm and racing begins at 6:30pm.
