Sunday September 26th is a special event day for Sunset Speedway as the staff prepare to host OSCAAR in the Velocity 250. The event will include heat races plus the following feature lap races: 50 Lap OSCAAR Super Late Models, 75 Lap Late Model Invitational, 50 Lap Super Stock/Thunder Car and 35 Lap Mini Stock. The pit gates will open at 10am, spectator gates at 11:30am and racing will start at 1:00pm. In the event of rain there is a rain date set of Saturday October 2nd.
This is the second last OSCAAR event of the 2010 race season with Autumn Colours to follow in a couple of weeks. Several drivers are still working toward good finishes in the standings. Glenn Watson leads the pack with 189 points over 2nd place Mike Beyore. Only 135 points back of 2nd is Jeff Dunford in 3rd with a comfortable lead of 268 points over 4th place Lloyd Ritchie. Meanwhile, Derrick Tiemersma in 5th is just 75 points back of Ritchie. Anything can happen over two races so there is plenty up for grabs in the top 5. In the top ten battle there are only 81 points separating 9th to 12th so there is still room to race into the banquet top-ten for drivers like Rudy Oppersma and John Owen.
