Chief among family is Paul Heap who took Cheryl to the hospital on Friday, leaving their home at 3am with surgery taking place between 8 and 11 am. The report from the doctor was that the surgery was successful with no problems. By yesterday evening Cheryl was up and walking around a bit. If today goes well, the plan is for Paul to pick her up on Sunday to bring her back home.

Cheryl and Paul have been fixtures at the track for many years and during the past few years they have been integral members of the OSCAAR Officials Team. Cheryl is scoring director while Paul handles line-up and other duties such as bringing the OSCAAR pace truck and trailer to the speedway. Racing is a very important hobby in their lives to the point that surgery was scheduled on an off weekend. If all goes well, Cheryl doesn’t want to miss a race, and she will be at Sunset Speedway to score the next OSCAAR race.

Eleven drivers participated in the OSCAAR practice, a record attendance for a practice. There was plenty of interest in figuring out the new track and finding the fastest way around.

The 40P Outlaw car has been on a tear lately with stops at Lindsay and Peterborough. This has given race hungry OSCAAR fans an early opportunity to see a Super Late Model up close and personal.

Drop by the mall for driver autographs and bring your camera as Mosport Speedway has several cars on display. The Five Points Mall is located at the corner of Ritson Rd and Taunton Rd in Oshawa.

As most of you know, Jerry Wilcox has handed in his resignation as club president due to health reasons.  We wish him well on his road to better health and thank him for his efforts and dedication since he joined the OSCAAR family.  He is willing to help us in any way, and to assist in the transition to a new leadership.

We have scheduled a meeting on Sunday March 14, 2010 at the Best Western (formerly Ramada) in Milton at 12pm to 2pm. The address is 161 Chisholm Dr, Milton On L9T4A6. For the Google Map click here:  Best Western Milton Directions

This meeting will be for drivers and or car owners only.

The agenda for the meeting will be a general election for a president and vice president and to open the floor for nominations for additional positions to top up the board of directors.  We will also open the floor to discuss the Ontario Speedway Association and how that has effected our series with regards to payouts and car counts.

And here are some reflections on the weekend from OSCAAR President, Jerry Wilcox:

Hi Gang,

OSCAAR spent the weekend at the CPT Show in London Ontario as a guest of JBM Leasing and their race team. I want to thank Jeff very much, as this show is a great success and it gave OSCAAR the opportunity to show new fans what we are all about.

Don and Sandy were there on Saturday and took tons of pictures that are going up on our website shortly. Don had so much fun, that he drove all the way back to the show from Peterborough on Sunday for more pictures.

I also want to thank Edna MacEachern and Tom White for their help and support on both days. Very long days and a good job. Also we had some very special OSCAAR Members on hand for support as well. I would like to thank Paul & Tom Milligan, John Fletcher, Mike and Mrs Bricknell, Glenn Watson and Bill Passer for spending their time on Sunday afternoon to support the OSCAAR effort at the show.

These shows are a lot of work, but they do payoff as we picked up two new potential sponsors for the series as well. We will make an announcement when they are confirmed. Again, thanks to all that helped make it a success.

Rain dates have been added: Sunset Speedway, May 24th and July 4th.

The final Sunset event has been moved ahead by one week: Sunset Speedway scheduled for Sep18/19 has been moved to Sep25/26, the structure of this special race weekend is still being negotiated.
